MIMPMedicine in Malawi placements (MIMP)
MIMP, based in Dundee, Scotland, is a partnership between Dundee University Medical School, University of Malawi College of Medicine, and the Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi. MIMP aims to provide medical manpower and resources to Malawi through a rolling programme of exchanges that will see at least 2-3 Scottish medical students being based at Kamuzu Central Hospital, Lilongwe, for approximately 9 months of the year. It is part of a broader initiative to develop the medical educational infrastructure in Malawi. MIMP is endorsed by the Scottish Executive International Development Fund and NHS Education for Scotland, and is a full member of the Scotland-Malawi partnership. Our placements will provide expertise, resources and technology transfer to Kamuzu Central Hospital, while giving us practical experience of working in a challenging environment. Each of us will pay our own travel and subsistence costs. While our presence in Malawi will support the provision of care in the hospital, it does nothing to address the shortage of up-to-date equipment in Malawi.
We are raising funds for basic medical equipment for Kamuzu Central Hospital, as part of the Medicine in Malawi placement (MIMP) project. The hospital needs equipment including glucometers, blood glucose strips, blood pressure cuffs, thermometers and pulse oximeter leads. As examples, £14 can buy a Blood Pressure machine, £23 can buy a glucometer, £167 can buy a patient trolley and £266 can buy an electronic suction machine (local prices in Malawi).
We have designed a series of gift cards from £5 to £50, the full value of which goes towards medical equipment for Kamuzu Central Hospital. These cards, which you can personalise to suit the occasion, make a refreshingly different gift for friends or family.
Or if you prefer you can support us by simply making a donation.
