Combatting operational pollution from offshore petroleum activities: international legal regimeDescriptionby S Vinogradov, 1997, 80pp
Detailed DescriptionMarine pollution through offshore oil and gas exploration has only recently begun to attract the attention of environmentalists. This paper looks at three specific forms of pollution - intentional pollution, accidental pollution and operational pollution - and how these have attracted increasing international attention. International and regional laws affecting ocean pollution are scrutinised (eg MARPOL and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea), as well as the question of "soft law." Specific areas such as the Baltic, North-East Atlantic, Gulf and Mediterranean are examined and contrasted. |
