The Centre for Translational and Interdisciplinary Research will have the capacity to house about 140 research staff.

The first (ground) floor will allow expansion of our drug discovery and chemical biology capacity. Early stage drug discovery at The University of Dundee is growing rapidly and is providing researchers with chemical tools to probe basic biology, to validate drug targets in models of disease and to advance towards pre-clinical drug candidates Expansion of our Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) will help build a powerful pipeline, translating excellent and innovative bioscience into solutions for unmet medical needs in:

• Neglected tropical diseases, such as human African trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, Chagas' disease and malaria, and
• Other therapeutic areas, such as cancer, anti-bacterials, anti-virals, eczema, type-2 diabetes and Huntington's disease, where innovative drug targets discovered at the University of Dundee and other institutes world-wide can be advanced to proof-of-concept.

The second floor will house Mathematical Biology and Biophysics, Bioinformatics, Chemoinformatics, Data Analysis and Software Development. The CTIR will provide the exciting opportunity to bring these disciplines together, allowing contributions of scientists from a number of different fields, each bringing their expertise to bear on aspects of the larger, systems-level problems.
