Course Description

Aim: Develop background knowledge and understanding of a broad range of clinical embryology and andrology techniques, including indications for their use. Develop basic practical skills to learn how to perform such techniques, including how to solve common issues.

Reproductive medicine is a specialised branch of medicine that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing conditions related to human fertility and reproduction. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including endocrinology, genetics, embryology, and andrology, and plays a crucial role in addressing infertility, reproductive health disorders, and assisted reproductive technologies (ART). The field has advanced significantly over the past few decades, with key breakthroughs such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and cryopreservation techniques transforming fertility treatments. Ongoing research continues to refine ART techniques, improve success rates, and integrate emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and stem cell therapies, to enhance reproductive healthcare outcomes.

This course provides comprehensive hands-on training in key laboratory techniques used in reproductive medicine. On the first day, participants will develop a strong foundation in essential lab skills. The second day focuses on sperm manipulation and semen analysis, followed by training in sperm cryopreservation and egg vitrification on the third day. The final two days cover the principles and practical application of intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) alongside an overview of the clinical services. Throughout the course, health and safety considerations will be emphasised. Additionally, participants will engage in journal clubs, explore current scientific research in reproductive medicine, and gain insights into designing and conducting research projects.
